Discover Hanami

Hanami is a hidden gem located at 377 Bancroft Ave, San Leandro, CA 94577, offering an unforgettable dining experience for anyone in search of authentic Japanese cuisine. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring the area, this charming restaurant has everything you need for a delightful meal. From flavorful sushi to cozy ambiance, there’s something for everyone at this spot.

When you walk into Hanami, the warm, inviting atmosphere immediately sets the tone for a relaxing dining experience. The décor is a blend of traditional Japanese elements and modern touches, making it the perfect spot for a casual dinner or a special night out. It’s not too fancy but certainly refined enough to make you feel like you’re treating yourself to something extraordinary.

One of the standout features of Hanami is its diverse menu, which caters to both sushi lovers and those who prefer cooked dishes. Whether you’re craving a fresh sashimi platter, a comforting bowl of ramen, or even tempura, their offerings are made with the finest ingredients. One of my personal favorites is the sushi rolls, which are always packed with flavor and served with a generous portion of fresh fish. The Hanami Roll, for instance, combines spicy tuna, avocado, and a delicate touch of wasabi mayo, all wrapped up in a perfect bite. Every roll seems to be crafted with care, balancing flavors and textures beautifully.

If you're someone who enjoys a bit of variety, the menu also offers donburi bowls, bento boxes, and grilled dishes. Their teriyaki chicken is another must-try-grilled to perfection, tender on the inside, with a sweet and savory glaze that leaves you craving more. The chefs here truly understand the art of Japanese cooking, and it shows in every dish they prepare.

Another reason why Hanami has gained a loyal following is its exceptional customer service. The staff is always friendly and eager to make your dining experience memorable. They are knowledgeable about the menu and can recommend great pairings with your meal, whether it’s a glass of chilled sake or a warm cup of green tea. The attentiveness to guests, paired with the relaxed environment, creates an ideal atmosphere for enjoying your meal without feeling rushed.

The restaurant is also well-situated, making it convenient for people in and around San Leandro to visit. It’s just a short drive from the city’s main attractions, making it an easy stop for lunch or dinner while you’re out and about. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a long meal, Hanami makes you feel right at home.

In terms of value, Hanami offers a great balance between quality and price. While you might expect a premium price for such high-quality food, the portions are generous enough that it feels like you’re getting more than your money’s worth. It’s also an excellent choice for a group dinner or family outing, as the menu offers plenty of options for sharing.

Another noteworthy aspect of Hanami is its consistency. No matter when you visit, you can rely on the same high-quality food and service. This reliability is key for any great restaurant, and Hanami nails it every time. If you're someone who’s been to other local spots and left disappointed by fluctuating quality, Hanami is a refreshing change of pace.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, Hanami at 377 Bancroft Ave is an excellent choice for your next meal. Its combination of authentic flavors, a welcoming environment, and top-notch service makes it a standout in the area. So, the next time you’re craving sushi or Japanese comfort food, head to Hanami-you won’t be disappointed.

  • My friend and I came for lunch, and we had a lovely afternoon. I got a poke bowl that was fresh, filling, and flavorful. My friend had a gorgeous sushi roll and miso soup. I ordered the house sale hot, and she got hot tea. The service was prompt and friendly without being overbearing. The overall vibe was popping over to a friend’s house and they just happen to have banging Japanese food. It was also a great value. I plan to come here again for sure.

  • This is a cute little place in a quiet neighborhood. Food was decent. Teriyaki chicken was a bit salty. Egg in the ramen was a bit overcooked. The udon has such a great texture!! It was very good! And the hamachi kama was perfectly grilled.

  • Cute little Japanese spot with super fresh fish! We got the sashimi combo D and the salmon Teishoku combo—both were really tasty, nicely presented, and super filling. No lunch specials, but honestly the portions and quality make the prices feel fair. Service was awesome too (they even gave us extra fish!). Definitely a place I’d come back to. (Note, they ran out of hamachi so just went with Salmon, which is always a tasty fish. Probably would also like to come back to try a design-your-own poke bowl!)

  • Hanami is a small family-owned business with great service and a warm atmosphere. There’s street parking available, and we were seated right away. The food was delicious and unique. Their menu offers items you don’t usually find at other sushi or Japanese restaurants. The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and I tried escolar sashimi for the first time and definitely coming back for more! We also ordered the mango cheesecake and almost forgot about it until it arrived. It turned out to be one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had, with little chunks of mango inside. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their desserts.

  • In a nutshell; such a cozy place to dine in , with good Japanese food. Parking is a bit tough since there really isn't a dedicated parking spot but once you're pass that, this place gives you a really cozy atmosphere as you are sat. The server's very well mannered and accommodating. The menu has a good variety of choices and wasn't too long on the wait either. The food is great and prepared really well and presented nicely. Overall very pleasant experience and a place you should try if you dont mind kind of walking a bit off where you park if you can't find a parking nearby.

  • Wonderful service! The Ambiance is inviting, bright and relaxing. Food - Excellent! When I eat here I order my favorite ramem with black garlic and tonkatsu pork. . The pork was carefully prepared in a succulent very tender melt in your mouth experience. Eat without any interruption of technology if you can. Savor the flavor. Enjoy the moment. I'm writing this review after my enjoyable lunch!

  • *Out of towner review* The food here was really good! I got everything to go so I could eat by the ocean. Staff was super helpful and nice. I like the inside of the restaurant as well, I wish I could have eaten it there. Sushi was fresh with the right amount of sauces. The ramen was also very good. It was packed well to go for the broth, the noods were cooked well, and the pork was crispy! I would definitely go back

  • Hanami is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Bay Area. It has a clean dining room, is relatively inexpensive, the staff is very pleasant and efficient, has good portions, and the food comes out quick, beautifully presented and delicious. Though I've come here multiple times, I don't have a standard "go to" order given everything I've tried on the menu has been great. The photos on this review are of my most recent visit: [1] Sashimi Combo B, [2] Sushi Combo C, and [3] Chicken Karaage. I tend to go before the lunch crowd arrives on weekends, so street parking along Bancroft hasn't been difficult to find; I'm not sure if the restaurant has a dedicated parking lot, but I'm assuming it doesn't since it's a relatively small, modest space sandwiched between other residential and commercial buildings.
